Three superb little books in marble-lined, calf-skin slipcase
Book One: Dante
Gabriel Rossetti: The Blessed Damozel., 1903. Full scarlet calf, filleted boards, five panel gilt spine
(somewhat darkened) AEG, silk marker, headbands, decorated turn-ins.
Inscribed M. Saxton, with love from F.S. 30 November, 1905.
Book Two: Elizabeth Barrett Browning: Sonnets From the Portuguese. 1904. Dark maroon, long grain morocco. Decoration and inscription
as above.
Book Three: The Marcus Aurelius Yearbook, complied from the writings of Marcus Aurelius by Joan Barrett., 1905. Forest green long
grain morocco, similar to others but this one has elaborate gold tooling
on both boards. All three have slightly darkened spines and minor wear to
hinges, slipcase has wear to two corners. Given the dates of publication
and the date of the inscription, probably F.S. had the slipcase made to
present the three volumes together. The set is from the Doris Varner Walsh
collection inherited by Kathryn Rickard and each volume has the D.V.W.
1992 K.I.R blue bookplate.
