miniscula, the world's smallest bookshop, 1993-1996 |
| miniscula and me | closed for the winter | stock |
miniscula began in response to the hyper-claims frequently seen all across this country—the biggest this in the world, the biggest that in the world! Well, I thought, what about the other extreme? So I built the world’s smallest bookshop, just 6 feet by 10 (external measurements) and filled it with tiny books ranging from less than ¼” (honest!) to 3½ inches.
Later I moved on to bigger stores, and bigger books, but I still have many of these miniatures, ranging from Christmas tree book ornaments to leather-bound, gilt edged masterpieces.
I continue to design and make a number of tiny novelty books, some individually and some in series. They include:
Detached Thoughts which bring together quotations from great thinkers, linked by commentary from a contemporary student of great thinking:
Small Greetings - tiny accordion books which allow you to send a number of different messages to someone special.
An Alphabet of Alphabets - from Alphabet to Zoo via B is for Book and G is for Glass, these 1"square books describe who does what to what.
50 Ways to Say....... - several useful phrases in 50 or more different languages
